The recent memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by U.S. President Donald Trump and Iran has sparked a wide array of reactions worldwide. While some global leaders see it as a positive development towards easing international tensions, others criticize it for potentially giving Iran undue advantages without securing clear commitments on curbing its nuclear ambitions. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the diplomatic efforts, highlighting how the agreement could lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and renew negotiations between the U.S. and Iran. Additionally, the G7 leaders expressed their support, viewing the deal as a crucial opportunity to prevent Iran from advancing its nuclear weapons program and to stabilize global energy markets.

According to the agreement’s terms, Iran is set to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States will reduce certain sanctions impacting Iranian oil exports, petroleum products, and related banking services. These measures are designed to facilitate further discussions around Iran’s nuclear program and its stockpile of highly enriched uranium over the next 60 days. The deal has, however, faced significant backlash in Israel, where officials and former leaders argue that easing economic pressure might empower Iran without ensuring substantial constraints on its nuclear activities. Critics within Israel have also accused the government of being excluded from the negotiation process, and some analysts caution that this agreement could heighten the country’s security risks.

In the United States, reactions have been mixed. While some Republican lawmakers express cautious optimism, emphasizing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the reduction in hostilities as positive outcomes, others, including several Democratic leaders, remain skeptical. They argue that the agreement offers Iran economic relief while only securing vague commitments regarding its nuclear program. President Trump, on the other hand, has characterized the deal as a significant victory for the United States. Meanwhile, Iranian officials have hailed the agreement as evidence of their successful negotiation tactics.
